In February 2018 we piloted the kiosks for a period of six months at Moorfields City Road. A review of all Moorfields sites took place to understand which sites would benefit from outpatient check-in kiosks being installed. During December 2018 additional patient check-in kiosks were introduced at Cayton Street, City Road Campus, Croydon, Ealing, Northwick Park, the Richard Desmond Children's Eye Centre and St George's. In total, the trust now has 17 kiosks across these sites to enable patients to check into their appointments electronically. The kiosks will offer patients an alternative to waiting in a check-in queue contributing to an improved and more efficient outpatient experience.
Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is at the forefront of new and innovative technologies for eye care and research. New patient kiosks are a step forward in embracing new, efficient ways of working that benefits patients and hospital staff. As such, we wanted the new kiosks to be as accessible as possible. The kiosk screens have been specifically modified for visually impaired patients, can be changed to high contrast colours, large font display, and offer a choice of 14 languages. Staff and volunteers will be available to support patients in using the new kiosks.
As part of this programme, we are also considering ways to further assist patients in using patient kiosks and digital self check-in technology in the future, to ensure we continue to improve and innovate to deliver the best patient experience at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
