10 staff from Moorfields Eye Hospital and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO) staff have been named on The Ophthalmologist Power List 2025.
Every year, The Ophthalmologist magazine celebrates the top inspirational and influential clinicians, scientists and leaders in ophthalmology through their Power List. This year, they have cut the number of people recognised from 100 to 50, with a top 10 under each of five themes.
Our clinicians have filled a remarkable 10 of these positions, meaning 20% of those achieving this accolade are from Moorfields.

Gus Gazzard - consultant ophthalmic surgeon and director of surgery, and professor of ophthalmology at IoO
Keith Barton - consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields and professor of ophthalmology at IoO
Retina
Lyndon Da Cruz - Consultant ophthalmic surgeon and service director of vitreoretinal surgery at Moorfields and professor of retinal stem cell and transplantation surgery at IoO.
Mariya Moosajee - professor of molecular ophthalmology at UCL IoO and the Francis Crick Institute, consultant ophthalmologist and head of the genetic service.
Innovation
John Marshall – Frost professor of ophthalmology and director responsible for enterprise and innovation, UCL IoO, in association with Moorfields
Pearse Keane – consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields, professor of artificial medical intelligence at IoO.
Sobha Sivaprasad - consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields, director of the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Moorfields Clinical Research Facility (CRF), and professor at IoO.
Research
James Bainbridge – consultant retinal surgeon at Moorfields, chair of retinal studies at IoO.
Paul Foster - professor of ophthalmic epidemiology and glaucoma studies, IoO and consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields.
