This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non compliance with the accessibility regulations

Many of the PDF documents on this site are either untagged or insufficiently tagged so will not be accessible to screen reader users. This fails several WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA success criteria, including:

Non-text Content (Level A)

  • 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A)
  • 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence (Level A)

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

WCAG 2.2 AAA

As part of Moorfields' commitment to accessibility we have also tried to build our designs and templates to meet as much as possible of the WCAG 2.2 AAA standard, particularly where this relates to visual impairments. This includes the following WCAG 2.2 Level AAA success criteria:

In addition to meeting as many as possible of the WCAG 2.2 Level AAA success criteria, we are committed to continually improving the accessibility of this website. We aim to achieve this by:

  • Implementing alternate colour scheme options, including dark mode.
  • Performing regular accessibility audits.
  • Frequent research and incorporating customer feedback to improve our services.
  • Keeping up with the latest best practices and evolving standards.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 1 February 2024, shortly after the launch of the new site. It was last reviewed on 22 January 2025.

During development of the new site each component was tested throughout design and build on a range of devices against the WCAG 2.2 Level AA standard. This included:

  • Colour contrast checking of designs using Figma Contrast plugins and a browser-based WCAG Contrast Checker.
  • Semi-automated testing using axe DevTools and ARC Toolkit.
  • Manual testing using keyboard navigation.
  • Manual testing using screen readers, speech recognition and zoom tools.

Before go-live we also tested a selection of pages using similar methods to ensure content added to the templates also met the WCAG 2.2 Level AA standard.

The test was carried out by CDS and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
