On Thursday 2 November, Martin Kuper, chief executive at Moorfields Eye Hospital, signed the Armed Forces Covenant, alongside Wing Commander Chris Owen, Air Regional Employer Engagement Officer (London), Royal Air Force.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a public pledge to ensure that Veterans and Reservists aren’t at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing healthcare or other public or commercial services.
Signing the Armed Forces Covenant is the beginning of Moorfields’ journey towards gaining the Veteran Aware Accreditation to become a Veteran-friendly hospital.
Vital support for reservists
On signing the Covenant, Martin Kuper, chief executive said: “We would like to welcome our visitors today and the opportunity to sign the Armed Forces Covenant. I think it is vital that we support our staff who help in the Reserves. They make an important contribution to our national safety and security. It is an important commitment that we have made today.”
Wing Commander Chris Owen, added: “I just want to say thank you to the hospital for signing the Armed Forces Covenant. It is really important that those people that serve in the Reserve Forces feel supported by their employers. By signing this today, you have shown that commitment to those Reservists, to the nation and to defence. I wanted to just say thank you very much for doing so.”
