His Excellency Dr George Vella, President of Malta, visited Moorfields Eye Hospital on July 10 2019 and presented Moorfields Eye Charity with a generous cheque in support of our research.
The President and his delegation were greeted by Robert Dufton, chief executive of Moorfields Eye Charity and were introduced to three staff members of Maltese origin at the City Road site.
As part of the visit, the President was taken on a tour of the City Road hospital, including the visual fields clinic, medical Retina clinic and Moorfields blind art collection.
His Excellency Dr George Vella, President of Malta was visiting Moorfields with the main purpose of making a donation to Moorfields Eye Charity in support of the hospital’s innovative research programme. This cheque was presented on behalf of The Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, which is a charitable organisation that supports individuals and entities to improve the health and wellbeing of Maltese people.
Moorfields has a longstanding relationship with Malta, treating over one hundred Maltese patients over the past few years. The President of Malta has made visits to Moorfields every two years since 2012.
Robert Dufton, Moorfields Eye Charity chief executive, said: "It was an honour to welcome HE Dr George Vella, and to take him behind the scenes to see Moorfields in action.
