Nick Hardie appointed as non-executive director at Moorfields Eye Hospital

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Nick Hardie as a non-executive director at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As part of his role Nick will chair the audit committee, taking over from Deborah Harris from 3 January 2017.

Nick is an experienced finance professional whose career has included senior treasury and financial management roles for a number of FTSE companies including Marks and Spencer and Hammerson. He brings a range of knowledge in financial governance and planning, investment and commercial real estate. Nick has been a non-executive director at Devon and Cornwall Housing Group since 2012, where he chairs the audit committee and sits on the treasury and remuneration committees. He has been a trustee of the musical education charity Spitalfields Music for over ten years where he chairs the finance and legal committee.

Nick said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the board at Moorfields. This is an incredibly exciting time for the trust and I look forward to contributing my expertise to the future development of one of the world’s leading eye hospitals.”

Tessa Green, the trust chairman, said: “Our thanks go to Deborah Harris who has been a long-standing non-executive director and a diligent chair of the audit committee. We look forward to working with Nick who brings with him a wealth experience in finance and non-executive roles.”

What is the audit committee?

The board is required to maintain a sound system of internal controls to safeguard its NHS clinical services, assets and investments.

An independent audit committee is a means by which the board receives evidence of independent checks concerning the trust’s system of governance, financial risk management and the systems and internal controls of the organisation. In particular the committee’s work focuses on the framework for mitigating financial management and financial reporting risks, internal controls and related assurances that underpin the delivery of the trust’s corporate strategy.
