Moorfields at Stratford has been awarded the prestigious GIRFT (Getting it right first time) surgical hub accreditation for efficiency, safety and quality.
This award is made to sites which have two or more theatres and reach these exacting standards, and has now been achieved by every possible Moorfields site.
The Stratford team had to submit evidence ahead of the GIRFT team’s visit, including standards, performance data and patient feedback and ratings.
As part of their assessment, the GIRFT team spoke to patients and staff, including one patient, an artist, who credited the Stratford team with ‘giving me my life back’.
One of the NHS England assessors described Moorfields at Stratford as ‘ophthalmic nirvana’.
Moorfields at Stratford offers surgery (and outpatient) appointments for cataracts, glaucoma, medical retina, adnexal and general ophthalmology including a laser suite).
For most specialties, it has historically low waiting times.
Only five minutes from the busy Stratford station, it is less than an hour from almost everywhere in east and north east London, as well as most of Essex.
