#HelloMyNameIs... Purnima Sharma

We caught up with Purnima Sharma, staff nurse.

Purnima has been a valued member of the nursing team since April 2024.

The culture here is so positive which encourages me to head to work on regular basis.

Has there been one example or situation which has made you feel an additional sense of pride working at Moorfields and why?

My team appreciate each other even for the smallest achievements. I have started as a peer vaccinator and my team even clapped for me, encouraging my peer group to get vaccinated.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given and how has this helped you?

“Learning does not use the filter of age’’, this advice makes me continuously work on adapting new skills. I learnt to check visual acuity and intraocular pressure measurements, which I was not aware of before starting at Moorfields.

How do you personally try and create a better work/life balance? Do you have any top tips to share with staff?

I set boundaries between work and personal time and practice relaxation techniques, I have decided not to work more than five days a week to help with my boundaries.

Kindness is one of our values. What does this mean to you and how do you strive for it in your everyday working life? Can you give an example of how you have been kind?

Kindness can increase your sense of connectivity to others. In daily life, I usually offer a helping hand to others and lend an empathetic ear to someone who needs it.

How do you champion equity, diversity and inclusion in your current role? What difference have you made?

By respecting the choices made by others based on ethnicity, culture, tradition, situations and much more.

I have always tried to make the workplace environment healthy, under the professional framework, by participating in the celebrations of different cultural festivals.

When you’re not working what do you like to do?

I love to spend quality time with my family.

In no more than two lines, what does working at Moorfields mean to you personally?

I feel that I am working with professionals, that I can learn from and that they will push me to take on new and challenging opportunities.
