Wayfinding to Stratford Clinic

video transcript

Welcome to our wayfinding video for Moorfields at Stratford. Our patient, Chris, is going to show you the way to our site on Stratford High Street.

Moorfields at Stratford is located within a ten minute walking distance of both Stratford Underground station and Stratford High Street DLR station. In this film, Chris is showing you the route from Stratford Underground station.

As you are leaving the underground station. Make sure to follow the signs for the exit to Stratford Town centre. This is where we begin our journey today.

Please note there will be some pauses in the audio in between each set of directions. You will know when the film has ended when you hear the words ‘Our team will check you in for your appointment.’

Once you have exited Stratford Underground station, turn towards your right and walk down Station Street. You will continue down this street for a couple of minutes.

You will be passing buses on the road to your left hand side, and the train tracks will be on your right hand side.

As you are continuing along this road, you will see the large Unex Tower up ahead of you. Keep walking along the street before turning slightly to your left to stop and cross in front of the large Unex tower. This should now be directly in front of you.

Cross here onto Great Eastern Road. Please remember to look left and right before crossing.

As you cross, you will follow the path which turns towards your right
and you will continue along Great Eastern Road. Keep going along this path for a couple of minutes. The road will now be on your left and you will be passing large office blocks.

The path may be narrow in part due to construction work, so do take care along this pavement.

You will see Stratford High Street ahead of you. Keep walking until you reach the crossing at the end of the path.

You will pass a sculpture that looks like a tree, which will be on your left as you approach the crossing. There is a cycle lane just before you reach the traffic light crossing, so please do stop and check for cyclists.

Once you've reached the crossroads, there will be traffic lights to stop at. Please wait for the green light or sound to cross safely. Then you can cross straight over onto Stratford High Street, taking a left towards Moorfields at Stratford.

Continue to walk along Stratford High Street for a couple of minutes. The road is on your left and you will be passing shops and businesses on the path you are walking along.
Keep going for a minute or so before stopping to cross over a small side road. Please stop and remember to check for cars and cyclists before continuing over and carrying along this path.

After a minute or so you will reach Moorfields at Stratford, which is on the same path you are on. You will see Stratford Shopping Centre on the opposite side of the road.

Once you've arrived, stand back a little from the doors to the entrance, as the doors open towards you. Go through the doors to reception on your right hand side.

Our team will check you in for your appointment.

Our diagnostic hubs

Find out more about what to expect when you are invited to attend one of our diagnostic hubs. This film features a patient visiting our diagnostic hub at Hoxton, but patients invited to any of our diagnostic sites will likely undergo similar tests, depending on their clinical needs.

video transcript

Welcome to Moorfields Eye Hospital’s   diagnostic hub at Hoxton. You have been selected to attend a diagnostic hub by your clinical team.

Diagnostic hubs can be in hospitals, but are now frequently at standalone sites, part of a community diagnostic centre, or even in shopping centres like Brent Cross.

Moorfields patient Winsome is attending Moorfields diagnostic hub at Hoxton for her glaucoma. Hubs also offer tests for other common eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.
When you arrive at one of our diagnostic hubs, you will be met by one of our specialist technicians who will take you through a series of tests. These tests usually take 45 minutes to complete.

First, the technician will test your distance vision using the familiar eye charts. If you wear glasses, please bring them with you. Next, they will check your eye pressure.

We may then dilate your eyes with drops, which will blur your vision over the next few hours. If you are already using eyedrops for your condition, please bring these with you to your appointment so our staff can check what you are using.

For patients attending for glaucoma check-ups, we may also test your field of vision to look for signs of glaucoma, or to check that your condition is stable.

Another test we will carry out is an OCT, or optical coherence tomography scan. This takes a high-resolution scan of the back of your eye to look for changes associated with glaucoma or retinal conditions. When the tests are complete, you are free to go home.

The results from your test are then sent to one of our clinicians to be assessed. If they need to discuss what they have seen you will be contacted by telephone. If not, you will receive a report on the outcome, along with a letter telling you the date of your next appointment.

Outpatient waiting list

From 1 September 2024 we are making changes to how we manage our follow-up appointment process.

For more information about these changes and what they mean for you visit our post appointment page. If you have any further questions, please do contact us using the contact information provided.

Follow-up appointment frequently asked questions

Why have you made these changes to follow up outpatient appointments?

To improve your experience as a patient, we have made the process of booking your next outpatient appointment more efficient. The new process will reduce the number of cancellations made, ensuring patients are seen when they need to be.

Instead of booking your next appointment when you are in clinic, you will be sent a date to attend your follow up closer to the time you are due in. This appointment will be booked by the team managing your care and will be approximately six weeks ahead of when we are due to see you.

For example, if you are scheduled to see us for a follow-up in six months’ time, we’d send your appointment details approximately four to six weeks ahead. Those patients who need to be seen sooner will still be provided with an appointment time before they leave clinic.

Do I need to contact my clinic?

Please be assured, you will receive your appointment date from us. If you need to update your details or communication preferences, patients at City Road can email moorfields.outpatientbookingsbc@nhs.net.

For patients at other Moorfields sites, please contact your clinic.

What if I can’t make the appointment date you give me?

If you are unable to attend the follow up date provided, contact us to arrange a date that is more suitable.

What if I am worried about my sight/eye health in between appointments and feel I need to be seen sooner?

If you feel you need to be seen before your next scheduled appointment, please contact us as soon as possible.

The clinician in charge of your care will, if required, arrange for you to be seen sooner, or they may give you advice on how to manage your condition in the time between your appointments, for example.

If you have serious concerns about your eye health, or if you experience sudden sight loss, it’s important that you let us know straight away. You can use our A&E service at City Road or log on to our online A&E platform, where you will be able to speak to a doctor.

If you do not live close to London, or cannot access our online A&E service, please go straight to your nearest eye care unit.

What support can I get from Moorfields to help manage my eye condition in between appointments?

Continue to follow the healthcare advice given to you by your team. If you are required to administer eye drops to keep your condition stable, please do so. If you need any further support, you can speak to one of our nurses via the nurse-led helpline on 0207 566 2345.

If you experience sudden sight loss, or eye injury, please attend your nearest eye care unit or log on to our online A&E service.

Who can I speak to about how my appointments are managed?
