#HelloMyNameIs... Rakhi Anand

We caught up with Rakhi Anand, temporary staffing lead.

Rakhi was born in India and is Hindu. Rakhi completed her MBA in HR management in the United States.

When I think of my heritage and the journey that has led me to this point, I'm reminded of the vibrant threads that have woven my story, creating a unique tapestry that blends tradition, resilience, and a deep love for exploration.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given and how has this helped you?

The best piece of advice I’ve received is to “embrace uncertainty and change as opportunities for growth”. This has been instrumental in shaping my outlook on life. By viewing challenges and unpredictability as chances to learn, adapt and evolve, I’ve become more resilient and open to new experiences.

How do you personally try and create a better work/life balance? Do you have any top tips to share with staff?

In my quest to achieve a balanced work-life routine, I have adopted several practices.

Beginning my day with a calming yoga or pilates session provides me with a centred and focused mindset, setting a positive tone for the hours ahead. In the evenings, I find solace in long walks, allowing me to unwind, reflect, and disconnect from the workday pressures. Embracing physical activities like swimming once a week not only promotes physical health but also offers a refreshing mental break.

I also make a conscious effort to take regular breaks during work hours. These practices not only contribute to my personal well-being but also serve as valuable tips that I would gladly share with fellow staff members.

Kindness is one of our values. What does this mean to you and how do you strive for it in your everyday working life? Can you give an example of how you have been kind?

To me, kindness embodies a fundamental and genuine concern for the well-being and feelings of others. In my everyday working life, embodying kindness means actively seeking opportunities to uplift and support my colleagues, clients, and anyone I engage with.

I strive for kindness by practicing active listening and making a sincere effort to understand the perspectives and needs of those around me. By doing so, I aim to create an environment where individuals feel valued and respected. Small acts of consideration, such as offering assistance, expressing gratitude, or providing constructive feedback with tact and sensitivity, can go a long way in promoting a harmonious atmosphere.

How do you support our Greener NHS ambitions by working in ways which have positive social and environmental impacts, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from travel, energy use and waste? (in your personal or work life).

In my work/personal life, I promote energy conservation by ensuring that lights, computers, and other devices are turned off when not in use.

Wherever possible, opting for virtual meetings and teleconferences instead of in-person meetings that require travel. This reduces the carbon footprint associated with commuting and business travel. When travel is necessary, I consider using public transportation, carpooling, or cycling to reduce emissions.

I practice responsible waste management by recycling and properly disposing of waste materials.

People who know me, also say I have green fingers as I grow vegetables and fruits in my garden. I also participate in green initiatives such as, tree planting, energy-efficient building upgrades, or waste reduction campaigns.
