#HelloMyNameIs... Rachael Parker

We caught up with Rachael Parker, HR officer for reward, health and wellbeing.

Rachael works to identify, develop and implement a range of health and wellbeing initiatives for all colleagues. Also to encourage and enable them to lead healthy lives and deliver an excellent and caring service to our patients.

We understand that our colleagues have a busy workload, but it is important to prioritise your wellbeing.

Has there been one example or situation which has made you feel an additional sense of pride working at Moorfields and why?

There are many examples I can think of which make me proud to work at Moorfields. However I attended my first Moorfields' Stars event this year and it was a fantastic celebration.

It was lovely to see the hard work of some of our colleagues acknowledged and praised. It was a pleasure to be involved and made me very proud of all the work we do!

When you’re not working what do you like to do?

I’m not particularly sporty and don’t have any hidden talents so there is not a lot happening on the hobby front.

However, I do enjoy spending time with my friends and family any chance I get and as the weekends get colder, I really enjoy going out for a Sunday roast.

How do you personally try and create a better work/life balance? Do you have any top tips to share with staff?

To create a better work/life balance I try to do one thing a day which I enjoy and can look forward to which makes even a bad day seem brighter.

This can be something as simple as watching a feel good programme on the TV in the evening.

Working together means we collaborate with one another, with our patients and with other organisations. Can you give an example of a collaborative way you work?

We work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure we are providing colleagues with effective wellbeing initiatives.

One example of this is the work we do with our Employee Assistance Programme, HealthHero Assist. We have a great relationship with the team over there and they are always happy to provide colleagues with more information about the programme they offer.

HealthHero Assist will be holding a stand in the canteen at City Road on Thursday 2 November from 12:00 – 13:30pm for colleagues to visit and ask any questions they may have about the service.

We also work collaboratively with our fantastic communications team who are always really helpful and accommodating of our ideas!

What makes you happy?

Sunbathing by a pool with a good book.
