#HelloMyNameIs... Peter Foster

We caught up with Peter Foster, head of facilities management.

Peter has been at Moorfields since February 2021 and is operationally accountable for the estates and facilities services that are provided across our sites. His role also involves being the fire safety manager for the trust.

I feel that we make a vital contribution to the success of the organisation and as such should feel very proud of ourselves and what we do.

When you’re not working what do you like to do?

Keeping my 6-year-old daughter entertained seems to take up most of my time and around that I enjoy watching football (I’m a Man Utd fan!) and Formula 1 (McLaren fan) and seem to spend most of my weekends meeting up with friends and family somewhere around the country.

Excellence is one of our values. What does this mean to you and how do you strive for it in your everyday working life? Can you give an example?

For me excellence is delivering a facilities management service in a consistent, value driven basis, time and time again. Alongside our motivated staff, who do an excellent job with a primary focus on customer satisfaction, be that patients, staff or visitors.

Working together means we collaborate with one another, with our patients and with other organisations. Can you give an example of a collaborative way you work?

We have to collaborate across our sites and meet with E&F colleagues on a regular basis to help support the clinical teams on site to resolve any issues that they are experiencing. This is an important part of how we support the network site teams as we don’t have E&F staff permanently based on them.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given and how has this helped you?

You won’t always make the right decision but be clear about why you made that decision and learn from where it didn’t work out.

As a result, I always have robust evidence-based reasons for the decisions that I make and I’d like to think I don’t often get it wrong. Others may disagree though!

In no more than two lines, what does working at Moorfields mean to you personally?

I think it is great to be working at a world leading organisation that is held in such high regard for the work that it does. I feel that we make a vital contribution to the success of the organisation and as such should feel very proud of ourselves and what we do.
