#HelloMyNameIs... Murshid Ibrahim

We caught up with Murshid Ibrahim, ward inventory controller.

Murshid has worked at Moorfields for over two years and dedicates his time to making sure consumables stocks are replenished in theatres and on wards.

I always smile at patients and give them a little hello and some courage, to make sure they are comfortable when I am walking around.

Has there been one example or situation which has made you feel an additional sense of pride working at Moorfields and why?

Moorfields is one of the best hospitals and it makes me feel very proud to work here.

In my day-to-day role, the weekends are the busiest because of very specific scheduled operations so I will always prepare any stock in advance. This makes me feel proud as I am giving my services to one of the world’s leading eye hospitals and in the best way I possibly can.

When you’re not working what do you like to do?

I love to go jogging and cycling to stay healthy. I am also very family orientated and have a little boy who I love.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given and how has this helped you?

My wife is a nurse at Newham Hospital and she said to me, working in the healthcare sector is not just rewarding for yourself but also for your community.

After hearing that I realised, it is not just a job - knowing it is a service to the people and our community makes me work harder. What my wife said constantly plays in my mind and pushes me to work harder.

Kindness is one of our values. What does this mean to you and how do you strive for it in your everyday working life? Can you give an example of how you have been kind?

I always smile at patients and give them a little hello and some courage, to make sure they are comfortable when I am walking around. I also ask them if they need any help for directions because I have walked these halls so much and would love to help wherever I can.

Our purpose is – working together to discover, develop and deliver excellent eye care, sustainably and at scale. Can you give any examples of how you do this?

I always look forward to the workday and I am always prepared in advance.

Different items take different times to arrive and I prepare everything on Monday so service is delivered well. My advice is to always plan ahead.

For certain products we are not sure how many we will use in the week, so it is good to have those items in stock constantly. I am always keeping an eye on the stock we need to help our staff deliver excellent care.

What makes you happy?

This job really helps me stay positive and I really enjoy it. Your job is definitely a key part of your day and keeps you happy and motivated.
