#HelloMyNameIs... Meeta Kular

We caught up with Meeta Kular, medical HR and recruitment officer.

Meeta has been working at Moorfields for over six years.

[My colleagues] have had an impact in my recent growth by showing support, believing in me, making me push personal boundaries and making the work environment more inclusive.

Has there been one example or situation which has made you feel an additional sense of pride working at Moorfields and why?

Apart from my everyday work in current and previous roles, I just completed the Leadership Academy Programme which I am very proud of being a part of.

It required hard work and dedication. Not only did I gain knowledge and leadership skills but also self-belief and self-confidence.

When you’re not working what do you like to do?

I like listening to music and dancing. I also love taking my dog to the park or the beach and watch him play and run like crazy.

Visiting different countries to learn about different cultures is another passion of mine.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given and how has this helped you?

To believe in myself, that I have got this and ‘you stole the show’ – this has had a tremendous boost in my self-confidence.

How do you personally try and create a better work/life balance? Do you have any top tips to share with staff?

I believe that the work environment should be where everyone can be their authentic selves.

Equity is one of our values. What does this mean to you and how do you strive for it in your everyday working life?

Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances needed to reach an equal outcome.

I am visually impaired and have struggled with it due to being discriminated against and the lack of support in the past.

However, over the years, things have changed in the world and we are evolving. This trust is definitely trying to improve in this area, for staff with disabilities, to have equal opportunities by providing the right reasonable adjustments wherever possible.

I strongly based my Leadersip Academy Programme project around areas where we can make a positive change at the trust for all staff, especially staff with disabilities.

Can you share an example of innovation in your role or area that has stemmed from yourself or your team? Please could you also share what impact this has made?

I designed a pilot scheme using the lunch and learn sessions within the HR Department, which took place in September 2023. I (together with a work colleague) got a chance to share a bit about myself, talk about my disability and discuss how it affects my daily life.

The attendees were also given a chance to ask questions or comment. And if I may say so myself, it was a game changer!

Staff are more forthcoming, supportive, interactive, warmer and friendlier.

Is there anything you’d like your colleagues to do as a result of reading this that would help with what you’re working on?

A little bit of kindness, empathy and consideration will make the world a better place to live in.

Do you have a pet? If so, please could you share a photo and a little bit about them? How long have you had this pet for?

I have a dog – a spanish water dog. He is three years old and he was delivered to us all the way from Spain when he was four months old. He is the love of my life and I can’t see my life without him in it. He loves me unconditionally and that is the best form of love ever!

In no more than two lines, what does working at Moorfields mean to you personally?

Moorfields has been a godsend for my existing eye condition and would like to return the favour especially to the nurses and doctors for their time, care, and expertise.
