#HelloMyNameIs... Joshua Agbogidi

We caught up with Joshua Agbogidi (Josh), shared decision making facilitator at Moorfields.

Josh joined Moorfields in February 2024 and his role involves working as a subject matter expert leading shared decision making across the trust.

I celebrate every victory, big or small, with a little cheer for myself.

Has there been one example or situation which has made you feel an additional sense of pride working at Moorfields and why?

I was informally talking with my classmate and I told him I joined Moorfields. The excitement and glow in his eyes said it all. In his words, “they are the most reputable eye specialist hospital in the world”.

When you’re not working what do you like to do?

When I’m not working I love reading and spending some time with family playing PS games.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given and how has this helped you?

“Take your time to read through the documents”. Usually when I join a new trust I carry out my duties as well as try to understand a large volume of information at the same time, this stresses me out. However, given protected time to go through the archives before launching into the role gives a different feel of confidence.

Equity is one of our values. What does this mean to you and how do you strive for it in your everyday working life?

Equity is being fair to all and not having any biases in dealing with people.

Our purpose is – working together to discover, develop and deliver excellent eye care, sustainably and at scale. Can you give any examples of how you do this?

One of the aims of my role is to embed the culture of shared decision making among our frontline healthcare team, by promoting collaboration among interprofessional teams. I have been able to achieve this by sharing knowledge and enthusing various teams to take ownership of projects that directly affect them collectively and individually.

How do you personally try and create a better work/life balance? Do you have any top tips to share with staff?

I coordinate fun social events with my colleagues and I am a master of time management, ensuring my work stays at work and my home life is free and clear of office tasks. I celebrate every victory, big or small, with a little cheer for myself. Plus, I focus on eating well, staying active with light exercise, and dressing sharply—topped off with a hint of my favourite scent—to cultivate an atmosphere of peace and serenity. It's all about creating the perfect balance!

Excellence is one of our values. What does this mean to you and how do you strive for it in your everyday working life? Can you give an example?

Excellence is going above and beyond the bare minimum. I strive for this by constantly seeking feedback to continually improve. An example of excellence is always giving the healthcare team the voice and ownership of tasks which sets the tone to a helpful working environment.

What would your colleagues be surprised to discover about you?

I used to have a ten track rap album on radio!
