#HelloMyNameIs... Anne Georgiou

We caught up with Anne Georgiou, senior clinical scientist, member of the electrophysiology department and education and training lead for healthcare science who has been at Moorfields for over 14 years.

Anne’s role involves writing electrophysiology results for our patients, solving technical issues, providing support with patient queries and so on. She is also involved in a wide range of electrophysiology teaching and training.

Do something you enjoy, then even if it is hard work, you will always strive to do your best and you will still enjoy doing it.

When you’re not working what do you like to do?

I like to do park runs with my family and long distance runs or walks. We are currently training for the annual 15-mile Eye to Eye for Moorfields Eye Charity run, which is taking place on 23 June. This also happens to be my birthday! So, I’m looking forward to celebrating both with some cake at the end.

How do you personally try and create a better work/life balance? Do you have any top tips to share with staff?

I make sure I can spend some time every evening with my daughter and husband, relaxing and sharing our day with each other.

We enjoy doing activities together such as, parkrun, swimming and recently we have been climbing together as a family. My tip would be to always have some ‘me’ time too, even if it is just an hour reading something you enjoy, or going out for a run, make sure you do something for yourself.

What makes you happy?

Seeing other people happy, my family and friends, chocolate and running!

Who would you like to give a shout out to (team or individual) and why? Do you have any examples? How has this team/ individual impacted you?

I’d like to give a shout out to the whole electrophysiology team because of their passion to provide the best patient care possible. Not only do our team treat every patient in our own department with respect and dignity, but I have seen them out and about in the hospital offering help to patients and ensuring that they have the best experience during their time here.

Working together means we collaborate with one another, with our patients and with other organisations. Can you give an example of a collaborative way you work?

In the electrophysiology department we collaborate on a daily basis, to help each other and ensure our patients get the best care possible while with us. We work with the clinicians both inside and outside of Moorfields via our teaching sessions. We also work closely with both the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV) and British Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (BriSCEV) professional bodies for visual electrophysiology so that the most up to date knowledge and best practice is disseminated and carried out by all those involved in the area.

Do you have a pet? If so, please could you share a photo and a little bit about them? How long have you had this pet for?

We have a borrowed cat called Princess. She does not belong to us, but I think we belong to her! She comes running down the path when she sees us coming home in the evenings meowing and then spends the evening cuddled up on the sofa with us.
