The Moorfields Eye Hospital Research and Development department consists of a team of research professionals able to support you through all stages of clinical research.  These include:

As a global leading centre for research in eyes and vision, it is a key priority to offer as many patients as possible the opportunity to get involved in clinical research.

Moorfields delivers cutting edge treatments and has a diverse patient population that creates the opportunity to recruit patients into trials with wide ranging eye care needs.

We have a dedicated research support team of nurses, trial co-ordinators and research managers that support this ambition.

Delivering research from within the Moorfields Institute partnership is a major priority, but we also strive to attract more and more global partnerships for delivering clinical trials as this both broadens the research portfolio and increases the interaction with industry to positively contribute to the UK Life Science economy.

In order to speed up research translation we have a strong focus on research and clinical trial delivery performance and look continuously for ways to speed up set up times, improve our patient recruitment performance and time to target metrics.

Our Research

Studies that are conducted include early phase trials (Phase IIa or earlier); experimental medicine studies that require specialised facilities/staff/equipment or high-intensity or high-complexity elements only of later-phase studies. Other experimental medicine studies that may be eligible include testing and validating biomarkers and devices, if you are unsure of whether your study is eligible to use the CRF, please contact moorfields.crfenquiries@nhs.net.

How to Apply

All researchers from Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology can apply to run their studies in the CRF if the studies meet the eligibility criteria for early phase or experimental medicine studies. The Moorfields CRF may also be accessible to studies sponsored by external researchers and industry as long as a Principal Investigator from Moorfields Eye Hospital is identified to lead the study in the CRF.

Partnering and collaborating with industry.

Our CRF infrastructure is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). We have an extensive track record of supporting both academic and commercial studies in adults and children of all ages.
